The Iguana will bite those who do not dream, and as one realizes that one is a dream figure in another person's dream... that is self-awareness!

End of Run

After debating with myself for a while I decided to stop this experiment.

My reasons:
1) I caught a cold on wednesday morning and its getting worse
2) I thought it would be easy to stick to the schedule during University, it isnt (TOTAL control of schedule is essential)
3) Exams are coming up and I figured I'd be adapted before the main learning period starts (that would be this weekend) or at least my state of mind would make it possible to learn. It isnt ;) (Again, TOTAL control is a must...even if there is nothing important to do during the adaption, a time limit will put additional stress unto you)
4) I figured I could come up with things to do on scratch to pass the night hours, but thats not easy. I dont have a real PLAN to fill in my extra hours (I have a lot of things I'd like to do, e.g. Salsa classes, but took no start into making it happen), so I guess I should have a good plan before.
5) No sports...I LOVE my weightlifting and basketball, but there is no way I am gonna do it zombiefied (doing it at low exertion isnt a choice). This is a problem that will occur at ANY attempt to transition to polyphasic, but I didnt think about it before.

My goal to test my willpower is accomplished, I was 62 hours awake with ~3 hours of sleeping since wednesday. I never overslept or decided not to rise. This is no "I am too tired"-decision in the wee hours of the morning (I checked with a friend to see if I seem to be rationalizing my way out of it, which I dont).

The whole thing made me rethink my eating/sleeping habits which I plan to optimise as soon as possible. I will research more about reducing sleep time, getting more REM out of monophasic, as I still think it would be cool to have more time.

Good fight, good night!

Day 2 - day time

This morning I was so bashed I took a non-scheduled 20 min nap, that refreshed me a bit. University was hard today. One nap was in the middle of a lecture and I just dozed off for 10 mins or so and may have got some REM sleep then. I took another rest/sleep period aside from schedule, 10 min or so. The 1 pm nap I did on time, and now I am looking forward to the 5 pm one. I am quite energized right now, around 6.5/10 on energy level and also good motivation.

I returned to my parents house and I feel I can get the rest of the transition done here more easily (lot more stimulations than in my flat at university, e.g. my guitar, the piano, a TV, all my books etc).

Here I also have some good music. I will use a theta-wave inducing system for my next nap. Apart from correlating to REM sleep its a really good soundtrack and I am used to go to sleep while listening to it...

Day 2 - The night

Until now, all went well. Took my naps on time, didnt sleep and continued on time. For the 5 am nap I used my bed and managed sleep some time, without REM though. I decided to just fuck it all and sleep further when my last alarm, the computer watch startet screaming. Before the 5 am nap everythig was good, now I am seriously fucked. 44 hours since last night of full sleep, ~2 hours slept, no REM. I need that REM sleep soon.

Day 2

Just woke up from my 5 pm nap, which I had to do over an hour later due to the exam taking longer than planned. I seem to go to sleep during the naps and hope for some quality REM in the next few naps...

Uneventful

Had to delay my 1 pm nap and tried to sleep in a big lecture hall, which didnt work (but I guess it will work in the future). My energy and motivation are fairly high and I am looking forward to my exam at 3.30 pm.

A bit about my diet: I've never really eaten bad, meaning I eat homecooked meals most of my days and a Pizza/Kebab now and then. I dropped drinking coffee and alcohol a bit before starting my experiment, as I am addicted to neither one, I dont think that will pose a problem.

I bought a load of fruit juice yesterday (no way to make fresh one right now, which I plan to do) and some apples and oranges. I am drinking a LOT, easily over 4-5 liters a day, half juice/half water during the experiment until now, and I find it quite replenishing. I also bought a zinc supplement to fight colds (which I easily get when sleep-deprived, in fact I started coughing over the night). I plan to do light exercising during the night hours and continue on my normal weightlifting schedule if feasible.

A new day

Just finished my 9 am nap. I think I got some sleep here and it wasn't that hard to get up (even even though I am quite tired now). Tried to convince myself of how good it would be to just sleep longer, but I stood strong...

First pain

Just returning from my 5 am nap. I couldnt get any real sleep even though I was very tired. Normally I can go to sleep really fast after lying so I attribute this to the experiment. I expect the to go to sleep on one of the next naps.

This time I tested an mp3 from this blog here, but volume mix wasnt right for me. Maybe I'll do my own mp3, we'll see ;)

I've got a light headache (which I get from not sleeping) but whatever. I'll do some math to keep my busy till the 9 am nap.

Doin' the uberman

Ok, just returned from my second scheduled nap (1:00-1:30), couldnt go to sleep but was still quite relaxing.

I plan to do the standard 6 Naps a day, a nap of 30 min every 4 h.

Tomorrow I will have to write a really easy exam on basic computer usage, so I decided to start with the experiment tonight. After that there will be no big things I have to do until 1.3. (another exam, bit harder) apart from attending some lectures, birthday parties, and turning up at my basketball training (I train some youth from my village, so that's not too draining). I dont intend to drive a car till the worst is over, so I'll have to get people to drive me around, which will probably work ;)

To fill my night I plan to learn a bit for the exam and then watch movies until it's time for my 5 am nap.

Let's get rollin'

Hi!

I am planning to use this blog as a place to put my ideas and accomplishments, my dreams and ramblings. The first feature will be my testing of polyphasic sleep but there is certainly other content to come. My main focus is on self-development and seduction, but my other interests include basketball, weightlifting and playing the guitar plus a multitude of other topics.

I chose the title dreamlined reality because of the direct connection with my sleep experiment, but I am thinking more and more that it would be nice to live a dreamlined reality on every level ;)
